Sal with the Stars: SJP talks 'Sex'
Opinion by Sal Morgan
"I was just in Oz. I was there for my best friend's wedding," Kate Bosworth told me when we caught up earlier this month.
"I just love it there. I truly am my happiest when I'm in Sydney."
Prior to bridesmaid duties Bosworth was in New Zealand shooting Laundry Warrior with Geoffrey Rush.
"I play a knife-throwing sword fighter. It's a fantasy roughly taking place in 1870 in the old west in a deserted carnival village. It's kind of Tim Burton meets Ang Lee and throw in the Coen brothers," she laughed. "The director, Sngmoo Lee, is Korean and just had an extraordinary vision."
Bosworth will next be seen in 21, a fact-based story about six MIT students who were trained to become experts in card counting and subsequently took Vegas casinos for millions in winnings.
"The research for this one was really difficult," joked Bosworth at the movie premiere at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. "We had to gamble, drink and have fun. It was tough."
As for offering any expert tips?
"Don't ask! I just lost a few hundred dollars. I was just being reckless and paid for it! What do you do? You win some and you lose some. Well, most of us seem to lose a lot when you are here!"
Sarah Jessica Parker was also in Las Vegas and had no plans to place any bets but she did talk about Sex and the City.
"A handful of people have seen it and have been very surprised by the seriousness," she said when asked about the highly anticipated movie.
"There's something that happens which makes you realise it's really about your own complicity and disappointment. You know the necessity of friends, but really at a certain point as a grown-up person you have to take care of yourself," explained the fashion goddess.
"Don't worry, there's still plenty of ripe old salty dirty stuff but I think it's a really smart story and for me it was the role of a lifetime."
We know all the girls are back together. There's Mr Big, there's Jennifer Hudson, but SJP says she still doesn't know when it will open.
"I think we are all still figuring out what we want in terms of the movie. You know, whether it's at Cannes two weeks before it opens domestically. We have a lot of figuring out to do. Right now we are just in the final stages of finishing the movie and just getting it ready for everyone to see. It will all shake down in the next week or two."
Phew. We know we can't ask about Mr Big but can you lift the lid a little on Carrie's wardrobe?
"Sure. I started talking with Patricia Fields and a few designers last June. My rule is I will try anything on. I don't care how ludicrous or ridiculous or silly I think it looks because I will sometimes think it's absurd but then it somehow works. Honestly one of the best parts of making the movie is having a fitting with Pat and her team because it's just crazy. It's the most amazing, beautiful, ridiculous clothes in one room. It's a dream."
Fashion lovers are also on standby for Anne Hathaway's wardrobe in the big-screen version of Get Smart.
Hathaway plays Agent 99, the chic sidekick who hilariously fights crime in seriously sexy outfits that often include stilettos.
Hathaway said it was a "dream come true" getting to work with funny man Steve Carell (Maxwell Smart) but "kicking butt in heels was more of a mission than I imagined!"
