Sal with the Stars: Eva desperate for strike end
Opinion by Sal Morgan
Hallelujah! Looks like the writers' strike is almost over, which means Hollywood's most glamorous party, the Feb 24 Academy Awards, will go ahead.
Considering there were no Globes and the SAGS were soggy and sad this really is music to my ears.
"It's fantastic!" said Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria. "I can't wait to get back to work but first I've got to get back to the gym!" laughed the petite actress. "I've put on 10 pounds. Someone asked me if I was pregnant and I said, 'No! Just too much pasta!' I've been going out for lunch and dinner way too much and not doing a whole lot and now I'm paying for it!"
Longoria's latest movie, Over Her Dead Body (which will be released later this year) sees the sexy star play a jealous, bitter ghost trying to scare off her former fiance's new girlfriend. In real life the petite star says she's the "exact opposite".
"My character is an absolute control freak but I'm nothing like that! In my personal life, I just go with the flow. I live on cruise control. My husband, Tony [Parker], plans everything; our vacations, what movies we watch. I love it," she told me at the Los Angeles premiere.
Nicollette Sheridan showed her support for her "good friend" from Wisteria Lane, posing on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere with her man, Michael Bolton and a new blonde bob hairdo.
"We are all really good friends and spend a lot of time together," said Longoria when asked about the reported catfights with her TV co-stars.
"We have dinner, go shopping, have games nights and I can tell you Nicollette is very competitive! She doesn't like to lose and nor do I. So when it's her and I together it's game on!"
Kate Hudson also thinks it's the "competitive thing" that makes her onscreen relationship with Matthew McConaughey seem like "the real deal".
"We definitely know how to push each others' buttons, which I think is probably why most couples can relate to us. We have a little bit of a competitive thing going on," explained Hudson.
"I think people love watching us fight and want us to get back together and we are able to do it all with a certain sincerity but still a certain jest," she explains.
"I mean, even though you may know that we're going to get back together you look forward to seeing how we do it and you hope it will be hard, but you want us to make it there by the end. You know what I mean?"
It's been five years since we've seen this eye candy combination on the big screen (in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days). This time around they're getting divorced, searching for gold and looking hot in well... not too much.
"Ahhh. The dreaded bikini scenes! It's not my favourite part I've got to say," laughed Hudson.
Not surprisingly, "Mr Abs" McConaughey didn't agree.
"It was great. I don't like spending that much time in the make-up trailer. And I'd rather not spend too much time in wardrobe either," said the shirtless star. "All I needed was a pair of board shorts, a scuba tank and a pair of flippers and I was done."
Kate quickly added, "Yeah, it's easy for you guys but when you're a woman there are certain days in the month when you wake up, you feel bloated and the last thing you want to do is put on a bikini!"
"Oh there were days when I was so bloated too!" joked McConaughey. "I hope you all got the laugh on the end of that."
Film critics describe Fool's Gold as "pure rom com... Hard bodies, soft script... It's a mindless Funjet excursion that looks good and doesn't take long... Forget the plot and enjoy the scenery."
I say check it out if you are up for a perv with popcorn!
