Rove beat Bindi at Kids Choice Awards
Comedian Rove McManus has upstaged Bindi Irwin to be named the favourite Aussie at the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards in Melbourne.
Thousands of screaming children attended Saturday night's ceremony where McManus snapped up the favourite Aussie as well as favourite TV star award at the Hisense Arena in Melbourne Park.
McManus said he was delighted to win against stiff competition from the daughter of the late crocodile hunter Steve Irwin.
"This is like the Nickelodeon gold bat - it's a big one to be nominated for ... I don't even know why I'm here," he told AAP.
McManus, who earlier walked the orange carpet with stars from his television show Are You Smarter than A Fifth Grader, also took part in the ceremony's famous burp off.
"I feel tall," McManus said when asked to compare it to other award events.
Irwin didn't walk away empty-handed. The youngster took the biggest Greenie gong which she dedicated to her father.
"I will dedicate it to my dad and my dad's reserve," Irwin told AAP.
"A small mining company is thinking about strip mining it and we want to just save this one spot."
Ditching her trademark khakis for a pink polka-dot skirt and cardigan, Irwin, alongside her mother Terri, signed autographs for fans after flying in from Alaska.
In other categories, Ricki-Lee Coulter was named favourite singer while US teen sensation Miley Cyrus also nabbed two awards.
Kung Fu Panda was voted favourite movie and High School Musical actor Zac Efron picked up best movie star.
The awards, famous for sliming unsuspected celebrities with a bucket of green slime, didn't disappoint with host Natalie Bassingthwaighte and WWE superstar John Cena getting dunked.
Bassingthwaithe also thrilled the crowd with the world premier of her first solo song Alive.
Cena scooped the award for favourite sports star, beating local talent Grant Hackett and Casey Stoner.
Other celebs to attend the event included Shane Warne, Brian McFadden, Australian Idol finalists, Olympians Sally McClelland, Stephanie Rice and Liesel Jones as well as Neighbours star and singer Dean Geyer.
