Voting underway to decide ARIA winners
Voting is underway to determine which Australian music acts will take home a coveted ARIA Award.
The ten-day voting process, which gathers the views of more than 1,000 industry figures including record companies and past ARIA winners, started on Wednesday.
Once the votes are tallied, five nominees across the 28 ARIA Award categories will be announced on September 10.
The winners are declared at the Australian music industry's night of nights - the 22nd ARIA Awards - in Sydney on October 19.
ARIA Chairman and Warner Music Australasia president Ed St John said the event would reflect a "bumper year" in the Australian music industry.
"So many young Australian artists at the very beginning of their careers are already household names," Mr St John said.
"The 2008 ARIAs will be a wonder to behold."
Those in ARIA contention include emerging acts such as The Presets, Gabriella Cilmi, Sam Sparro, Whitley, Birds of Tokyo and Cut Copy.
Previous winners Delta Goodrem, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Veronicas, The Living End, and Kasey Chambers also have song or album releases which are eligible for consideration.
Silverchair dominated last year's 21st ARIA Awards where the rock band won five ARIAs, including gongs for Best Group, Best Rock Album and the coveted Album of the Year.
The 22nd ARIA Awards will be held at Acer Arena, Sydney Olympic Park, and the line-up of acts to perform on the night will be announced next month.
