Schumacher revealed as Top Gear's 'Stig'

Schumacher revealed as Top Gear's 'Stig'

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher was on Sunday unveiled as "the Stig", the mystery man who test drives cars on British cult motoring show Top Gear.

The identity of the white-clad driver is kept a closely guarded secret, but Schumacher, who was Formula One world drivers' champion seven times, finally revealed himself in the first of a new series of the show on Sunday night.

Presenter Jeremy Clarkson pretended not to recognise him at first, asking him what he used to do before he became famous as the Stig, but then excitedly shouted to the studio audience: "It's Michael Schumacher!"

Former Formula One driver Perry McCarthy was Top Gear's original Stig, who dressed all in black during the first two series.

The UK version is the original and best, I don't care for the Aussie version, it's just not funny! Content of the show aside, the characters are what make the show, not the cars!

They're pulling your leg! Really, anybody who believes that Schumacher is the 'STIG' really needs to have a reality check. Clarkson and co are just taking the piss out of all those people who think they know who the 'STIG' really is.

Too much crap in this world. If this video comes into my house it will find its way to the same place as the da Vinci Code crap .... to the depths of my dust bin.

I heard that 'THE STG' was at first stunt driver Ben Collins, who did stunts for many movies including the crashing of the Aston Martin in Casino Royale,

I'm just wondering will this new top gear story supercede the last top gear story that has made at least 6 different appearances in recent times as a fill in story. Regular commentators will know what I mean.......

The time recorded around the track by any vehicle is controlled by the driver and the (STIG) can slow or speed up depending on prefrence of that vehicle true or false

I have tried to be loyal to the aussie show but after watching 3 episodes I was completly dissaatisfied with the aussie version. Stop trying to copy the Top Gear and come up with an original aussie show.

Jeremy said at the end of the episode that Michael isn't really the Stig.

agreed with Don, TGA should stop trying, we have to make up our own personalties and stop trying to copy the brits. The test track they use now seems to be Oran Park, I heard it was closing down or something lol, maybe TGA should own it.

Adrian, The Aussie version should stop trying so hard. The Aussie personalities are good enough not try to copy the original. Hard to match Jeremy's persona.

Ho hum, do Bigpond get the news by carrier pigeon? Like the others said, its pretty ancient news. As for the Australian version, I saw it once by accident when I thought it was the real thing, never again.
Adrian (22/06/2009 12:06:27 PM) | Mark As Inappropriate
in a word, disappointing. the stig, as true fans will know was, after Perry McCarthy, Ben Collins, a F1 test driver, but he was "outed" as the Stig by some newspaper, so this maybe the 3rd stig, or a publicity stunt....... I'll take "B" eddie
